Anne Elliot is a brilliant and single-minded woman destined to live the life of an unmarried spinster in the judgmental world of the nineteenth century English middle class. That is until she meets Frederick Wentworth. In love across bounds of class and convention the two are forced apart by the position of Anne’s close confidante Lady Russell. Years later, Anne must face the return of Wentworth, now monied and successful from exploits in the Napoleonic wars. Dancing around the expectations and machinations of a high society that keep them apart Anne must choose between a fresh start and a second chance.
Persuasion is a period drama based on the novel by Jane Austen of the same name. It was released by Netflix on July 15, 2022. Directing the film is theatre veteran Carrie Cracknell from a screenplay written by Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow.
The film stars Dakota Johnson as Anne Elliot and Cosmo Jarvis in the role of Frederick Wentworth. Additional casting for Persuasion includes Henry Golding, Richard E. Grant, Nikki Amuka-Bird and Suki Waterhouse. The Jane Austen novel adaptation will be distributed by Netflix and was shot on location in Jane Austens home city of Bath in the UK. Persuasion was released on Netflix on June 15, 2022.
