Lionel and David first meet at the Boston Music Conservatory in 1917, where they bond over their shared love of folk music. After surviving the First World War, the pair meet in the state of Maine and travel together, recording American folk songs to preserve their cultural history. As Lionel moves to Europe and drifts throughout his 20s and 30s, he is consistently reminded of his time with David and their powerful relationship.
