Andor (2022)

This is not just the best Star Wars TV show by quite some distance, it's also one of the very best things to ever come out of the franchise (only the original trilogy can beat it, really), and one of the best TV shows of the last decade. High praise indeed, but honestly, watching Andor for the first time was truly mindblowing, refreshing, and dare I say it, close to a religious experience. As a devoted Star Wars fan, the demise of the franchise has been so sad to watch, but Andor proves there is still life in the galaxy yet. The first season is exceptional, and the second is even better.

When you get the chance to make a Star Wars show, you can try to make a great Star Wars show. Or you can just try to make a great show full stop, and only acknowledge that this is a Star Wars thing when it helps make your show even better. Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy has picked option B. Andor is simply a great drama about rebels ri in the face of dictatorship, full of fascinating characters on both sides. How totalitarianism affects various people, including those implementing it, is the grist for a super-intelligent thriller that, incidentally, sometimes has spaceships in it.
