High Potential (2024)

Sometimes you just want a smart but not too complex, funny but not too silly detective drama to while away a happy hour - High Potential is right in that sweet spot. It’s in the “magic clever person who can instantly decode everything at a crime scene” sub-genre, but the character who does that isn’t quite what you’d expect: Kaitlin Olson brings chaos and sass as single mum Morgan, a rude, earthy mess who just happens to be hyper-intelligent. That she has a bit of trouble and sadness beneath the surface - but not too much! - rounds off a perfectly balanced treat of a show.

There's nothing more cosy than watching an unconventional detective use their unique talents to solve crimes on a weekly basis. It's a tale as old as time, or at least as old as Hollywood, but it's been a while since a show like High Potential came along and nailed the formula with such ease. Kaitlin Olson, already a standout in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, reveals yet even more potential here as Morgan, a struggling single mum with an extraordinary mind for puzzle-solving.
