PULSE (2025)

Sometimes you want to watch a serious medical drama like The Pitt which will remind you of the genre's thrilling, everlasting appeal. And sometimes you just want to watch a soap opera thinly disguised as a medical drama where patients come second to the paper-thin joy of whatever nonsense the doctors find themselves. Netflix's Pulse is exactly that soap opera, a show that many critics have proclaimed dead on arrival. Are they right? Yes. Should that kill your interest in the show? Sometimes it's fun to do things that aren't good for us, and that includes watching Pulse.

Most medical dramas are more about personal relationships than they are medicine, so really Pulse is just pushing that a bit further. Okay, a lot further. Patients at this Miami hospital are in severe danger of dropping dead without anyone noticing, since all the doctors and nurses are completely consumed with new romances, memories of old romances, rumours of possible romances, and friendships powered by romantic advice and super-cheesy life lessons. Toss in a hurricane in episode one and you have a shamelessly soapy treat. Prescribe it to yourself to relieve worry and stress.
