Stranger Things (2016)

Stranger Things was Netflix's most watched original for a while yet it's far from an original show, borrowing from various 80s movies and the work of Steven Spielberg especially. But still, there's something about the combination of actors, writing and nostalgia coming together here that verges on perfect for fans of emotive sci-fi storytelling. Winona Ryder alone is worth the price of subscription in this star-making behemoth of a show. While some seasons are better than others, it's safe to say my world is going to turn upside-down forever when Stranger Things comes to an end.

As with any TV show, the experience you’ll have with Stranger Things can be very different from season to season. There’s no denying that the first season of Stranger Things was truly special; a unique and fresh sci-fi story that felt so exciting. The second and third seasons suffered a little from that phenomenal hype, but they’re still perfectly serviceable, especially with the introduction of Max and Billy in Season 2. However, it is Season 4 and the rise of Vecna that really lifts the bar again, with incredibly creative set-pieces and a delightfully dark storyline.
