We’ve all seen Oscar bait, but is there such a thing as Cannes bait? Sentimental Value picked up the 2025 festival's second prize but was most attendees' pick (including my own) for the Palme d'Or. Either way, Joachim Trier pulled out all the stops for this moving, lavishly directed and incredibly well acted movie about filmmaking, family trauma and inter-generational tensions. Renate Reinsve and Stellan Skarsgård deserve all the attention that will come their way, just don’t sleep on Elle Fanning's performance—the actress is simply exceptional in what could have been a thankless role
